unlike honey

Unlike honey was originally formed 12 years ago in Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia.Its initial members were Akmal,Ilhan,Kamarul and myself.It was formerly known very much among the underground scene in Bangsar in the late nineties and was streamlined together with bands like Radisson Silver Gum,Underground Pharmacy,Butterfingers,Toothpicks and OAG.We were playing lots of Pearl Jam music then and once a while one or two weezer music.We were playing lots of indie rock music and this was where I was introduced and first learned about weezer.Still remember the first weezer song we played was called Jamie.Akmal was the main vocalist and guitarist while Ilhan plays the guitars and Kamarul on the drums.I play the bass. We were frequently active in the local scenes doing gigs and school proms.Even as the band was actively having practice sessions almost once a week,we never really got serious into making music our career as we couldn’t keep at par with the vast growing talented rock bands in KL.As years went by,we drifted a little with Ilhan leaving for Scotland to pursue his studies and me being tied up with work at odd hours.But we still manage to hold the band together with just the three of us practicing whenever I’m not working.Soon somehow I was getting more and more interested in weezer,becoming a crazy weezer freak over the years,playing more and more weezer music until our band totally transformed into a weezer tribute band whereby we majorly ended up only playing weezer songs.

Somehow their music caught my attention and was obsessed with them eversice.During the transition I was then switched to be singing most of the weezer tracks while akmal backs me up.It was only recently where our drummer left us for some unforeseen reason and dissappeared from he surface of the planet.This was when I found or should I say Zaruf found me by accident after seeing some of our videos on YouTube and contacted me.Zaruf might be seen like any other 21 year olds but what got my attention about him is the talent that he has on the guitars and his huge knowledge on weezer.Especially on the songs as he knows almost as much as the band.Without much consideration and after one session with him,he become one of unlike honey’s latest addition.Subsequently as Kamarul left the band,we needed a new drummer to replace him and not long later we found Hafidz,a previous neighbour to Zaruf who plays the drums very much like Patrick Wilson,drummer of weezer.No reason why we shouldn’t make him our new drummer.And so that makes two new members in Unlike Honey,Unlike Honey! The latest breakthough for us is that we’ve been polled and featured in RollingStones magazine’s website to be among the many few chosen ones as the top few weezer cover bands in YouTube or rather in the world,the first for Malaysia though and ofcourse subsequently on weezer’s official website,weezer.com We’ve no future plans to be any big rockstars though but,were just hanging on for the love of music and weezer…till then!!
